The Future Project Africa launches My Vote My Voice campaign, to train 600 youths on social advocacy

The Future Project has launched the 2nd edition of its three (3) part voter education campaign series to encourage political participation among young Nigerians through PVC collection, voting for the right candidate and holding them accountable in office.

Records from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have shown that there has been a significant decline in the rate of voter turnout during elections in Nigeria. Only 52.3% of the registered voters voted in the 1999 elections; the figure rose to 69.1% in 2003, then went down to 57.4% in 2011, 43.6% in 2015 and only a handful of 34.74% of the registered voters actually voted in the 2019 presidential elections.

Themed ‘My vote, My Voice’, the campaign is part of the YMonitor Accountability Programme of The Future Project to stimulate interest in the electoral processes and provide  citizens with   information needed to  participate actively in the forthcoming general elections.

The campaign series, which is scheduled to be released in three (3) phases,  will run both online and offline through the use of video animation, radio jingle and Voter Education Pamphlets (VEP) produced in different indigenous languages.

As part of the project, a 2-day virtual workshop for 600 young advocates across the nation will be organised. The objective is to train young social innovators and governance-focused individuals on the global best practices for social advocacy. Participants at the workshop will be inducted as My Vote My Voice advocates who will further amplify the campaign message.
